The TBL summary report provides an analysis of the assurance statements provided on TBL reports on a geographical basis. It covers four groups, comprising Australia, United Kingdom, Europe and Japan.
The report argues that sound approaches to undertaking assurance engagements on TBL reports are essential in enhancing the credibility of TBL reports. Research found that there are no generally accepted frameworks for undertaking TBL report assurance engagements.
The study suggests there is considerable scope for improving current TBL report assurance statements and recommends that TBL assurance statement practice be improved internationally. Improvement could be achieved through organisations capable of providing authoritative guidance. Such guidance would need to be accepted more broadly than the accounting profession.
