Understanding your assessment result

Your assessment result will give you three basic headings:

  1. General information: a very brief background of the qualifications required for recognition in Australia and membership of CPA Australia.
  2. Assessment: advises whether or not your qualifications are comparable to Australian tertiary qualifications and lists the additional studies you must complete in order to meet the requirements for membership. If you have indicated that you also require the assessment for migration purposes then this section will include a paragraph in bold print giving the assessment result for migration purposes. The wording of this paragraph has been prepared to meet DIAC requirements and has been approved by DIAC for this purpose.

Your assessment meets the requirements for your nominated ASCO occupation and can be used with your application for migration without completing any further study if this paragraph states that:
    • your degree is comparable to an Australian bachelor degree / tertiary qualifications
    • you have no more than three (3) additional core curriculum areas to complete to meet the requirements for membership

Please note that you must complete the all the required studies to apply for membership.

However, if the Assessment paragraph advises that your degree is not comparable and / or that you have more than three subjects listed, then the bold paragraph will state that your qualifications do not meet the requirements for your nominated occupation.
  3. Further advice: gives general advice regarding completion of additional studies, how long the assessment is valid, how long we keep your records, etc.

All applicants who are advised to complete further study in the subject areas of taxation law and / or auditing have the option of fulfilling this requirement as part of the CPA Program.

This means that if you successfully complete study in all core knowledge areas except taxation law and auditing, you will still meet the Associate membership requirements. However, if you do choose to complete taxation law and auditing as part of the CPA Program, it is a compulsory requirement that you complete them as two of your three elective segments.

Alternatively, if you complete taxation law and auditing prior to being admitted as a member, you will have the flexibility of selecting all three electives of your choice in the CPA Program.

In June 2008, CPA Australia introduced three new bridging units.

Lists of accredited courses offered by Australian and overseas universities will be provided with your assessment. These will include courses offered by external study (distance learning). Accredited course information is also available from the CPA Careers website.
